Transforming old emotional habits that quietly shape your life and relationships.

Daniel Lichtman ∙ Registered Psychologist, Melbourne

“Why this might be different”

Fifteen years working as an attachment-based couples therapist has given me a rare depth of understanding of relationship dynamics, and heavily informs the way I now help individuals cultivate healthier, more satisfying relationships.

WHY THIS MIGHT BE DIFFERENT

An unusual background for relationship work

Many psychologists working with relationship difficulties have trained primarily in individual therapy. My background is different. Alongside spending the last twenty years working as an individual psychotherapist, I spent fifteen years working with couples, often in highly distressed relationships. That experience taught me things about how relationships actually break down and repair that you simply can’t learn from one side of the room, and it now sits underneath everything I do with individual clients today.

I also bring a particular depth to high conflict and narcissistic relationships, an area where many psychologists offer general support but few have specialised. And underpinning all of it is a grounding in mindfulness and attachment theory that shapes not just what we talk about, but how we work together, with presence, directness, and a willingness to name what’s really going on.

“Transforming the old emotional habits that quietly
drive your choices, reactions and relationships today.”

A MOMENT OF RECOGNITION

Do any of these sound familiar?

You’ve had some success in life, but something feels unresolved underneath

You keep hitting the same walls in your relationships – different people, same dynamic

Anxiety or low mood has crept in, and you sense it’s connected to your relationships

You’re exhausted by a difficult person in your life — a partner, parent, boss or ex

You suspect the person making your life difficult may be narcissistic — and you’re trying to find your way through it

You people-please, shut down, blow up, or numb out with alcohol or substances — and you’re tired of your own patterns

You’re facing a major relationship crossroads — an affair, separation, divorce, or a decision you can’t ignore

Beneath the achievement and connection, there’s a quiet existential aloneness you can’t quite explain

You’re self-aware enough to know something needs to change, but haven’t been able to shift it alone

HOW I WORK

This isn’t just a place to talk. It’s a place to work.

With twenty years of experience as a mindfulness and attachment-based therapist, and drawing on a range of evidence-based modality training, I help you identify the emotional patterns driving your behaviour and develop practical sustainable strategies to change them.
Whether you are navigating a difficult or high conflict person or relationship, burned out at work, recovering from trauma or just want to be more effective at managing life’s challenges, we will work together to build the clarity, tools and confidence to make better decisions and break free from patterns that no longer serve you.

This isn’t just a place to talk. It’s a place to work. Rather than simply being heard, you’ll actively work through your challenges and develop more effective ways of living. That means moving beyond anger, avoidance, people pleasing or numbing out, coping strategies that have a valid origin story but are now limiting your life.
